ARCADIA, Los Angeles County — October 25, 2026. Arcadia’s municipal government says the city’s sales tax rate increased from 10.5% to 11% on October 1, following voter approval of Los Angeles County’s Measure ER in June. That is another 50 cents in sales tax on a $100 taxable purchase, assuming the entire purchase is taxable. The city explained the change in its October public-information update.
How long is the increase scheduled to last?
According to Arcadia’s October update, Measure ER authorized an additional countywide half-cent sales tax for five years, with the stated period running through October 1, 2031. The city reports that the measure received 50.64% support in the June 2, 2026 election. Residents and business owners should use the current California Department of Tax and Fee Administration’s rate lookup to confirm the legally applicable rate for a particular sales location or transaction.
The City Council opposed the proposal
Arcadia’s announcement notes that its council adopted Resolution No. 7676 opposing the county measure in March. The city’s stated concerns included the economic burden on residents and businesses, uncertainty about how much the city itself would receive, and the measure’s spending provisions. These were the city’s stated objections, not a finding that the election result was invalid.
What shoppers and local businesses should know
Retailers should verify the correct current rate and whether particular items are taxable rather than applying 11% indiscriminately. Shoppers comparing the total price of larger purchases should account for the changed local rate. The countywide measure does not mean all California municipalities necessarily have the same combined sales tax: additional district taxes and local circumstances differ.
